Brazil had been on our family travel list for a while. After we finally made the trip, it was easy to understand why. From the beaches and mountains of Rio de Janeiro to Iguazu Falls, São Paulo’s colorful streets impressed us.
Traveling with our kids made the experience more memorable. Each destination offered something different, and we had plenty of moments to stop and take it all in.
Here’s a look at our family adventure through Brazil. 🇧🇷
Rio de Janeiro: A City Surrounded by Nature
We started our Brazilian adventure in Rio de Janeiro, one of those cities that seems almost impossible to describe until you see it for yourself.
Rio is unique because of the way the city, mountains, rainforest, and beaches all come together. One minute you’re surrounded by busy city streets, and the next you’re looking out over mountains, ocean, and lush green forests.
Christ the Redeemer
No trip to Rio would be complete without visiting Christ the Redeemer, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World.
Standing beneath the enormous statue and looking out across Rio was one of those bucket-list moments for our family. From above, you can really appreciate how dramatically the city is laid out, with mountains and forests surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean.
Sugarloaf Mountain
Our next stop was Sugarloaf Mountain, another Rio landmark that offers incredible panoramic views of the city.
The cable car ride itself is part of the experience, but the views from the top are what really make it worthwhile. Looking back toward Copacabana, the surrounding mountains, and the city below gives you a completely different perspective of Rio.
Exploring Santa Teresa, Tijuca and Rio’s Beaches
We also explored Santa Teresa, wandered through the city’s neighborhoods, and made our way through the lush Tijuca National Forest and Botanical Gardens.
And, of course, there were the beaches.
We visited Copacabana, Ipanema, and Leblon, each with its own personality and atmosphere. Seeing these famous beaches in person was one of those moments where something you’ve seen countless times in photographs suddenly feels completely different.
Our Favorite Rio Food: Açaí!
There was one thing our kids never seemed to get tired of: açaí bowls. 😂
Every time we came across a place selling them, they somehow found a reason to stop.
By the end of the trip, I think the kids could have happily lived on açaí alone!
Seeing Rio From a Completely Different Perspective
We saved one of our most memorable experiences for the end of our Rio adventure: a doors-off helicopter flight over Rio de Janeiro. 🚁
It was the kids’ first time ever in a helicopter, but we wanted to make the experience even more unique. Rather than taking a standard helicopter tour, we chose to fly without doors — giving us nothing between us and the incredible views below.
We booked our flight with Falcon Táxi Aéreo, and they took such great care of us from start to finish. Knowing we had two kids with us, they made sure we had a great pilot who took a more gentle approach to the flight and paid special attention to making sure the kids were comfortable and securely strapped in. The service was fantastic, and we felt very well taken care of throughout the entire experience.
Seeing Rio from the air was already spectacular, but experiencing it completely open to the elements gave us a perspective none of us had experienced before. Flying over the coastline, mountains, beaches, and city while feeling the wind was an unforgettable family experience.
It was definitely one of those travel moments we’ll be talking about for years!

Iguazu Falls: One of Brazil’s Greatest Natural Wonders
After Rio, we headed south toward Iguazu Falls, one of the world’s most spectacular natural attractions.
And photographs simply don’t do Iguazu justice.
The waterfall system consists of more than 275 individual waterfalls stretching across nearly 3 kilometers along the border of Brazil and Argentina. The scale is enormous. As you walk along the trails, the waterfalls seem to continue endlessly, with new viewpoints and dramatic cascades appearing around every corner.
We explored the Brazilian side of Iguazu Falls, which provides some incredible panoramic views of the waterfall system.
The sound and power of the water are something you really have to experience in person. You can see the mist rising from the falls long before you reach some of the viewpoints, and once you’re standing beside them, the sheer volume of water rushing over the cliffs is hard to comprehend.
Staying at Belmond Hotel das Cataratas
One of the best decisions we made on our Iguazu trip was staying at the prestigious Belmond Hotel das Cataratas, located right beside Iguazu Falls.
The hotel itself has a wonderful old-world charm, with elegant architecture and classy, traditional interiors that give it a timeless feel. It felt like we were stepping into a piece of history while still enjoying the comforts of a luxury hotel.
Moreover, the hotel offers something that makes the experience particularly special: exclusive early access to the falls for hotel guests before the park opens to the general public.
That meant we could walk along the trails early in the morning while the park was still closed to everyone else.
And there was a huge difference.
Instead of navigating the trails with crowds of tourists, we were walking through Iguazu with practically JUST US around.
Having the waterfalls largely to ourselves in the early morning was surreal. The quiet surroundings, the mist, the jungle, and the sound of the waterfalls created an atmosphere that felt completely different from visiting during regular park hours.
If you’re planning an Iguazu Falls trip and your budget allows for it, we would absolutely recommend staying at the Belmond Hotel das Cataratas. The location is INCREDIBLE, but that early-access experience was what really made our stay memorable.
Meeting Brazil’s Exotic Birds
After Iguazu Falls, we visited the Parque das Aves, or Bird Park, located near the falls.
This turned out to be another highlight of the trip.
The sanctuary is home to a remarkable variety of birds, including colorful toucans, macaws, flamingos, butterflies, and other exotic species.
But the toucans stole the show for us.
We saw one of the prettiest toucans we’d ever seen, and the kids absolutely loved getting to see these incredible birds up close.
After spending the morning surrounded by one of the world’s greatest waterfalls, walking through a lush environment filled with colorful Brazilian wildlife was a perfect way to continue the adventure.
São Paulo: Brazil’s Urban Side
We finished our Brazil adventure in São Paulo, a completely different experience from Rio and Iguazu.
São Paulo is enormous, energetic, and constantly moving. While we only had a short amount of time to explore the city, we managed to fit in a quick city tour and experience some of what makes this city so unique.
And of course, we couldn’t visit Brazil without indulging in some of its incredible food! 🥩 We made sure to try some amazing cuts of Brazilian barbecue, along with feijoada, one of Brazil’s most famous national dishes. It was delicious! We also had to try farofa, another Brazilian staple that quickly became a favorite.
One thing we love most about traveling is trying what the locals eat, and Brazil certainly didn’t disappoint!
Batman Alley: São Paulo’s Street Art Showcase
If there’s one place in São Paulo that instantly grabs your attention, it’s Batman Alley.
The narrow streets are covered with colorful murals and constantly changing graffiti, turning the neighborhood into an enormous open-air art gallery.
Every wall seemed to have something different to look at. The artwork, colors, and creativity made it one of the most visually interesting places we visited in Brazil.
For a family that loves art and photography, it was a perfect final stop on our Brazilian adventure.
Our Brazil Family Adventure
What made Brazil so special for us was the incredible variety of experiences packed into one trip.
From nature and wildlife to beaches, mountains, food, culture, and adventure, Brazil gave our family a little bit of everything.
And if there’s one thing this trip reminded us, it’s that some of the best travel memories aren’t always the places you expect.
Sometimes they’re the unexpected moments — an early-morning walk with no crowds, a perfect açaí bowl that the kids insist on having again, seeing a toucan up close, or flying over an incredible city with nothing between you and the view.
Brazil gave us plenty of those moments.
And we’re already looking forward to the next adventure. 🇧🇷❤️
